Robert L. Bacon, Deputy Commissioner
Texas Department of Banking

Effective January 1, 2007, Robert “Bob” Bacon was named Deputy Commissioner at the Texas Department of Banking.  Mr. Bacon has primary responsibility for overseeing the regulation and supervision of Texas state-chartered banks, trust companies, foreign bank agencies and representative offices of foreign bank agencies, and data processing centers. He also oversees the Corporate Activities Division and Management Information Systems area of the Department of Banking. 

Mr. Bacon began his career with the Texas Department of Banking in 1975 as a financial examiner. In 1981, Mr. Bacon served as the President of a local community bank in Central Texas.  He returned to the Department in 1988.  In August 2000, Mr. Bacon served as the Department’s Ombudsman and the Director of the Division of Strategic Support. In February 2003, he advanced to the position of Director of Bank and Trust Supervision. 

Mr. Bacon is a native of Austin, Texas, and a 1975 graduate of the University of Texas at Austin where he obtained his Bachelor of Business Administration in Finance.  He is a 2004 graduate (Class XXII) of the Texas Governor’s Executive Development Program and has attended the Texas Tech Banking School.  He and his wife, Susan, have one daughter.
